Examine the shorter tube and Rod carefully to see if somebody cut them back. Back in the day when I was a teenager playing jazz, I set up my hats very low. The rod in my hihat stand at the time, I don't recall which brand, was very long to start with, and as a result of the low placement of my cymbals it extended what seemed like close to a foot above them. I ended up cutting back that rod by 3 or 4 inches or so. In retrospect I shouldn't have done that, but at the time I wasn't thinking about its potential collectability factor 50 years later

They did make a taller version. It's not in the regular catalog but in the parts catalog there is a longer top tube and top rod available. I guess you bought the regular 1124 (my favorite hi-hat stand of all time) and then if you needed extra height you could order the other parts after the fact.

What's the difference between the 1123-1 and the 1124?

Would it be tubular legs instead of flat legs? Again, it's hard to tell because the picture won't expand.

Hmmmm, looking closer at the tiny picture it does look like those could be 1123-1 hi-hat stands which are different from the Atlas Big Beat 1124 model. However he mentioned that they have the adjustment knob which only the 1124 had. Maybe he just has the base legs expanded out further than usual.

They used the same top tube so what I said above would still apply to the 1123-1

Expandable photo, sorry everyone. These are 1124s. I do not see evidence of the shorter two being cut but is possible. I wonder what the stock lengths were?

If someone needs the longer tube and rod, I will consider selling to meet their need. I cannot play with the hats that high.

The two available lengths were 17" and 23", at least in this early 70's parts catalog.

I wonder if it is just pure coincidence that those are the same length options for floor tom legs?

For what it's worth, I've got a Pro-Beat kit I ordered from the Ludwig factory in 1976 (24, 13, 14, 16, 18). It's got the tall 1124 hi-hat with swivel feet and the long floor tom legs. These came with the kit - I didn't know anything about short and tall options.

Thankfully, I'm 6'2" and I sit a bit higher than most guys, so this hardware fits me just fine!
