Wrap Question

Loading...

I got some samples of BDP from jammin sam, precision, drummaker, and drum foundry. Im tryin to match a 60-63 BDP luddy kit 12-12-22. I already had a pioneer snare rewrapped in BDP. There were 2 different ones. Jammin sam's sample was a little blueish compared to the other ones that I thought matched rather well, In the meantiime I'm looking for a floor tom to rewrap to match my kit. I came accross this Luddy accent BDP floor tom on ebay and bought it and got it today, in fact. The wrap on the new BDP Luddy accent matches the Precision, Drummaker, and drum foundry samples excatly!

BUT!, it dont match the pattern on the oem vintage wrap. The color is excellent though. The pattern on the newer wrap is smaller than the original, but I couldnt hardly tell from the 2x4 sample. Ill park it in my music room that way till I find the real FT. Moral here is: You cant judge a wrap by a 2x4" sample. But you real guru's probably already know all that.

Wow - you guys are really into this wrap - that's great! I'm just starting so this seems to be THE Forum for this kind of info.

Poppy....I get what you're saying about the "can't tell the wrap by a 2x4 piece." But it would be good just to see Precision's HEX Sparkle pattern and I could get an idea at least. OR, better yet.............

Do any of you have a "sample" of HEX sparkle from Precision that you could photograph and put it on here or email it to me. Photo here is good enough - and that way everyone can see it of course.

Good stuff guys........and Poppy - sounds like you have some great projects going on. I'll have to read some of the old posts here and catch up - haha

Has anyone here ordered finish from these people? I've sent photos of the finishes I'm looking for Gold Sparkle - hexagon bits (attached here) and 60's Sparkles. Will hear from them next week sometime.

I believe www.drumbuilder.com uses hex chips in their sparkle finishes. They have a little graphic that explains the difference between sparkles and glitters:

http://www.drummaker.com/pix/ggcom.jpg

It refers to the sparkles as "hex chips."

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

Gary at Precison Drum is sending me Swatches. Those guys are awesome!

Thanks for all the info - a great help. And - I told Gary at Precision I got good information here at Vintage Drum ForumGroup Hug - haha.

Really looking forward to looking at that Bramuda Sand swatch - it has 'real' copper and silver flakes in it - it's more money, but it sounds like it's worth it if you want something a little different.....

AN ASIDE:

This is my $38 Kent after cleaning - I'm using it with my 58 Gretsch kit and it sounds pretty good with new heads and all tuned up in the mix.....
