Wow!!! SBP Restoration Video! Must See!

His methods make total sense. The discoloration is going to be on the outside as in cigarette stains from the smoke in the air. Then his sanding will create scratching, which he in turn smoothed / buffed out with the polish. .......and there you go! Next time I see a drum like that, I will have a better understanding of what could be done - so long as the discoloration is indeed on the outside. He must have noticed that this was not a result of sun rays. Yes indeed - he did a fabulous job and earned every penny of profit!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Nice work for sure! I just wish that after taking us all the way through the process, he would've at least hit the drum one time!

Believe it or else!

Interesting, thank you for posting. Have nothing to lose on my Gretsch 4105. Tried headlight restore already. Will give polishing compound with a buffing wheel a go. Need to get P1200 sandpaper anyway. If no improvement. I'll quit at that stage.

From jccabinets

I fell asleep the other night watching this, but started where I left off again this morning. I wish he would have shown the polsihing steps. I have a really nice polisher that I got from my dad. ITs like a side angle grinder but has a wool bonnet on it. I always wondered if that would work, now Im gonna have to try it, but on what? Guess I will wait until I get a drum that is really bad. I do have a CLubdate in sky blue that is missing a floor tom. Mine is not too bad, a little grey, but it would be interesting to see what could be done with it. Just kinda scary putting sand paper to the wrap!

Liquid car wax and a cloth wheel (high speed) give a great shine after cleanning wraps. I wouldn`t take the original sheen off though !i Wax will wear off and expose porous material !i

Believe it or not, to avoid shine on interior natural finnish, Real beeswax is the best results I`ve ever gotten. Nine coats takes nine days. You`ll never know it`s there until you spill liquid on it and watch it bead up !i

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Polishing compound did not make any difference. Not going to bother with 1200. Read elsewhere this is caused by UV exposure. This drum has been in a case for 35 years. After a good polish with car wax looks fine. Thanks for the tip Oddball!

Wasnt the whole point to sand then polish? The drum in the video was grey in color and by sanding he brought back the color. So I interested in sanding the shell then polising. I might buy a shell just to try it.

Thank you!

True. After some reading on pre 1966 wrap composition and seeing that BMP wrap appears to be discontinued. Ended the science experiment on the Gretsch 4105. May try it on a total junker, but not the 4105.

I dont blame you there!

I do have my eyes on a shell that would be a good canidate for an experiment. Propblem is they want 50.00 + shipping. Expensive experiment.

Thank you!
