Would you trade?

I'd make the trade if the Vistas are in good shape regarding all the condition issues already mentioned.

You posted what I have been thinking. Many a deal has been queered by sellers being "educated" by people who have zero interest in buying the drums being offered for sale or trade.

The only Vistas I lust for are the red white and blues with matching snare. Someone on here had them 5-10 years ago. I almost went for it. Some condition issues I recall..
Decision made, and the trade is done... I have the Vistalites now.

The condition... O... M... G... there are NO cracks on any lug at all. There are some very minor scratches. Chrome lugs shiny with almost no pitting. Center top mount might not be the original post, it looks more aged... I'm not worried about that, I can easily find another center mount. Rubber tips are missing from the spurs.

Talking to the young man who traded them, I found out more of the set's history.

Ordered for a music store, but never sold. Owner of the store liked the kit and kept it.

Never gigged, just kept in the store.

Store owner retired, sold the set to the young man.

The young man has several sets, likes to collect them. He played the Vistalite some, never gigged it because of the risk of damage. He wanted my DW kit to gig with.
I've attached photos, but it's cloudy/rainy today so there's no good light. Over the weekend, when the sun comes back out I'll move it in front of a big window and get photos with some good backlighting. It needs a general light cleaning.

Although, as I have already mentioned, I don't like Vistalites or DW drums for myself, I think that you made a great trade. Please enjoy the heck out of your newly acquired drums.

The tom mount looks great to me. Perhaps the chrome plate wasn't the greatest on that part - and it may look worn up close, but from your photos, it looks perfect to me.

Congrats on getting that kit!

Thank you everybody!

After doing some reading, I've ordered new heads: Evans G2 clear for batter, G1 clear for reso. I've found a number of posts claiming the Evans G2/G1 combo helps to moderate the tone. I'm a big fan of the G2/G1 combo anyway, I use the coated G2s with clear G1s on my vintage sets. The bass already has an Evans G3 coated batter and factory reso.

I'll start the tuning tests the same as my Hollywood set, with a low pitch. I don't want to put a lot of stress on the lugs. D2 pitch on the floor tom, G2 on the 13", C3 on the 12".

Looking forward to trying them out!

These shells produce a lot of projection since they are made of acrylic...There is virtually no absorption of sound like you get with traditional wood shells...Once you dial them in, you get "thunder"

Have fun experimenting and I`m sure that you will enjoy them...

Attached is a pic of my Jason Bonham signature O2 kit...
