My issue as well! I remember this kit in the catalog. I just couldn't get over the mounted tom sizes...and those HUGE tom brackets! I've no doubt that it's a fine kit, but the sizes just won't appeal to many.

Somebody needs to figure out a way to replace the LW modular hardware in some tasteful way. Then there may emerge more of a market for these 80's/early 90's drums.

But $450? That is very tempting. Cut down the 12, ditch the 10, and you're done. Yep.

I would buy it to try those style mounts and see how sturdy they are. Is the snare included in that price?

1960s Ralston (Star) set in Red Agate Pearl 12/12/16/20
1961 Ludwig Cocktail Lounge drum 24 x 16 in blue sparkle
1966 Ludwig Hollywoods in Sky Blue Pearl 12/13/16/22
1971 Ludwig Super Classics in Blue Sparkle 13/16/22
1976 Ludwig Vistalites in Blue 13/14/16/22
70s/80s Ludwig orphans in Black Cortex "Bonham" style 14/16/18/20/26 (B/O Badges)

Would you buy this?

The charcoal shadow finish is really nice (one of my favorite Ludwig finishes), that makes it an attractive buy. However, those sizes and modular hardware?

Based on your history of purchases/sales that you've made public on VDF, I don't think you'll like this configuration. I would judge you more a "traditional" size kind of guy and I think it would be one of the quickest flips you did.

Is this a six or four-ply configuration? Not sure if you have owned a four-ply, that may have some interest for you if it is such.

Not sure you want to spend the money to "trim the fat" and cut them down to traditional sizes and put a bearing edge on them as mentioned above... it may make it less attractive as a flip???

I think you would get a kick out of playing and experimenting with these sizes.

Talk the seller down a bit more and get them. You can eventually get your money

back, but you might just fall in love with the sound. I say go for it!

^ those mij aren't in the same galaxy. the Ludwig you put the 12 on your left- traditional - and the 10 on the right. So you have the 20/12/14 with the 10 as an outlier extra voice/move/. It's a Jazz/funk/Fusion club/gig (as in real work) set you'll never be ashamed of. Those Ludwig drums (are professional) should age well and last at least a good 30-50 years. It's a fair to near steal price..for a main wood-finish USA pro gig set.

I vote for the MIJ set if the cymbals and hi hat stand are included as well...Looks like a 13/16/22 set-up with matching snare?

It`s been awhile since you have had a MIJ set, JR!!

Heavens, no on the MIJ, especially if you are directly comparing the two, value-wise. Not even close.
