First post, I love this site. The information found here really helped me identify the first set of 1980's Ludwigs that I bought.
I recently found this 1960's set in my local area, and I was wondering if it was worth saving.

The badges are missing with the exception of the snare which has serial number 834266. This would place the set in the 1964 era. It looks like the lower hardware is missing from the floor toms and the guy said the inside of the shells were painted. Also, the bass drum tom mount looks odd or newer than that era but I could be wrong.
I am a do it yourself kinda of guy so this set looks like a fun project. The guy wants $475 for the kit. Is this a good deal or should I steer clear from these.
On a side note, is it wrong to paint the shells in a high quality base and clear coat versus rewrapping them? I am just curious if painting is an option or if the shells can be stained when the wrap is removed or does the glue leave a permanent residue.
Thanks all
Chris
