Worst "Radio-Edit" Songs of All Time Last viewed: 18 hours ago

This has been a complaint of mine for years. We know that back in the day that artists would have certain singles edited or shortened for radio play. Very few songs over 5 minutes existed in Top 40 radio. Save for maybe Let it Be or American Pie.

The worst of the worst has to be Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein". The cut up job -- from 5+ minutes in its original form to 3 minutes on that great tune -- is just ridiculous. The whole gist and feel of the song is lost. I just heard that tune again today in its bastardized version and I cringed.

Other songs given similar bad treatment were Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". Bad bad bad.

Any others? Just asking. Thanks.

p.s. Oh, and for morality sake there's Charlie Daniels' "I told you you once you son of a gun ...". :)

'Time' by The Chambers Bros. The short version was a real butcher job.

Crank the volume, close your eyes and imagine all the Hippies dancing...

It always bugged me when the local radio would cut out the quiet part in the Bob Seger song "Night Moves". That's my favorite part. They also hacked up a lot of the guitar solo stuff in Journey's "Separate Ways".

Don't fear the Reaper/BOC- the whole middle part doesn't exist.

Against the Wind/Bob Seger-second verse ending and piano solo eliminated.

Magic Carpet Ride/Steppenwolf-butcher the solo section.

Worked with an old studio guy in Seattle years ago. His studio was upgraded to 3 track at one point to give you a time reference...........

Used to put a time on long songs like 2:95. Along as the first number was not a 3, he suck some under the radar.

Chicago- Make Me Smile and 25 or 6 to 4....... are 2 off the top of my head. They are even on the CD as "single versions". I think a few tunes off Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon have chopped down versions? Everything I heard on AM radio (memba that?) as a kid was pretty well chopped up for time.

John that's a cool version of Time. Never saw that one thanks.

We'll have to start a thread with swear/cuss words left in songs played on radio. Skynyrd's Gimme 3 Steps off "One more from/for the Road" live has a doozie. LOL.

Glenn.
