Wood ludwig BD beater paint

Hey everyone,

I've got an old ludwig wood bd beater. which was originaly white, but with the time it turned grey/yellow.

I want to repaint it white, to better protect the wood and to give it back the clean look.

What is the best paint for the job and do I have to follow certain steps to paint old solid wood?
