Wood Block Mounting

Loading...

I have a Ludwig Super Classic kit from '62. And when I bought these drums, there were 2 Ludwig Brand wood blocks in with these drums.

My queston is how do these hook up to the kit? You see pictures all the time of the old Dixie Jazz players with multiple blocks on top for timekeeping, but there are no holes or hooks that I have found to mount these blocks onto anything on the kit.

I did cruise around online, and found a catalog picture where the woodblock was kinda wedged in between the cowbell mount (with cowbell on it) and the tom arm mounted to the bass drum...does this seem correct, or was it just for the picture?

Any advice or help would be great!

-Kevin

The only woodblock I have ever used was a newer one and it was attached to a specialized woodblock mount that clamps onto the bass drum hoop. The other end has 2 "pins" (for lack of a better term) that stick up and correspond to 2 holes in the end of the woodblock, itself.

Here's a picture I found of one that also holds a cowbell...but you can see the 2 pins where the woodblock goes...

Yeah, I have seen the newer types that mount on a hihat rod or its own percussion mount. But, I'm kickin' it old school with this one, haha! I have a 28"x10" bass drum that would be perfect for some dixie jazz and swing. If I can get the block to work on a kit, I might be able to make it work on the giant bass.

Thanks though!

I have a newer block also and am having a hard time trying to mount it to my bass drum. I bought a straight rod that attaches to the bass drum made by LP, but it just can't get it where I want it. What type do you have? Thanks

I think mine is a Tama or a Gibralter brand. I'd have to dig it out of a box of old junk to be sure. It clamps onto the rim of the bass drum and then the two pins go into the block. I used mine on a couple of klezmer gigs years ago.Mister T
