Thank you Mark and everyone else. This is what I wanted to hear. I do have a good AVG anti virus and I called them to ask the same question. Their answer was that they will continue to support XP so I am safe. I also use Google Chrome. I will upgrade soon, just wanted to know how much risk I am taking until I do the upgrade. For me it make sense to start over with entire new system as mine is 8 or 9 years old but the funds are not there this month due to money spent on a Camco drum set! Not to mention the Zebra kit.

Hi Jeff!

Glad we could help. By all means, if your PC is 8-9 years old, please think about a new one!

Because many of my clients are forced into getting W8, I recently built a new computer with W8 so I could get used to it. What a PITA! Yes, you can get used to it... but why?!! In the real world of getting serious work done on a computer, whether a PC or Mac, that work is accomplished with a real keyboard and mouse. IMHO, a touchscreen making use of apps is ideal for a smartphone or other "pad" device, but just doesn't work well on a full-size PC. I've no doubt that will change in the not-too-distant future!

After struggling with W8, I finally discovered the BEST add-on to bring back the Start menu and make W8 EASY to use for those of us brought up on W2000 through W7. That program is called Stardock. Just do a search for it. The best $4.99 I ever spent. You can switch back and forth between the W8 Metro interface and a more comfortable W7-style screen. I'm not affiliated with Stardock in any way, but just found this the BEST way to make it easy for my "older" clients, including myself!, to navigate W8.

Keep on computing... and drumming!

Mark
