At redhotjazz dot com there is a photo of Baby Dodds with the Johnny Dodds Orch. that includes: Baby Dodds, Natty Dominique, Johnny Dodds, Rudolph Reynaud, Lonnie Johnson, Lil Hardin-Armstrong. This is the only photo I’ve seen of Baby with his brother’s band (see it below). The snare that he is using in this photo appears to be at least a 6.5 deep shell and is not the one he painted white, and claimed in 1946 that he got in 1923 (the Ludwig 8 lug model he is seen with in most photos, and I think is probably a 14x5). The 6 lugger seen in the 1921 King Oliver photos is a 6.5 though. Photos are the best way to get an idea of what he was playing at the time that he was with his brother’s band. You can use known things like T- handles to measure other drums in photos. Sorry, this photo isn’t going to help much though.
