Judging from the looks of them, I would say that Pearl was the manufacturer and that they are exactly the same as my first set of Tempro drums.

Silvertone was the Sears brand (re)label.

Hi,

Another Nova Scotian reply.

As Mastro says. Simpson Sears sold Silvertone drums, guitars and amps. My first drums were a red Silvertone four piece, cost $220. Cdn. I believe they were a Pearl product.

There was a lot variation in product lines between the Canadian (Simpson Sears) and US (Sears) companies. (We got CCM bikes north of the border, not sure about the ones I see in the old Sears cats.)

The Silvertone Amps were really decent. We had three of them in high school, two 12" Jensens, 100 ostensible watts , lots of inputs. Two friends of mine both continue to use them particularly for their warm distortion. Here is a bit of history and a pic of Warren Haynes using his Silvertone on the final Conan OBrien show.

Yes the silvertone drums are made by pearl..By the tom mount on the set you posted i would date the set for 1970-1976 shells should be 7 or 9 ply base wood with-out rings..Also the tom mount was also used on C.B.700,Maxtone,ete all made by Pearl..Mikey

Third post from the fourth Nova Scotian...

My first kit was a red sparkle Silvertone. The other similar rebadged kits that I remember from that time were Crown and Coronet.

I also remember seeing a Stewart kit in a cool psych red style finish (20 yrs later...)

+1 for the Silvertone 2x12. Played at a benefit last weekend for a player who has been using his Silvertone ever since he bought it in '68, along with a Goldtop. The house kit was a new set of Collectors DW's, birch toms and a maple kick, all natural with a Birdseye Ludwig Millenium snare. A sweet kit.

From Drumdreams

Thanks for all the great info. I assumed they were probably Sears, but none of the pictures in the catalogs helped at all. As far as the interest in them.....well, for $100, I get a cool retro vintage look, that doesn't sound that bad with some TLC. Don't get me wrong, but I would love to have a vintage Ludwig, or Rogers, Gretcsh,...etc. Bang for your buck, (which I don't have a lot of), I have a lot of fun searching, finding, fixing and playing these kits. P.S. This is a fantastic forum, and community.Cool1

This is the exact spirit of collecting and "flipping" MIJ kits. We, those of this forum who love these kits, well most of us can't afford the Luds, Slings, etc. I love drums, I love restoring them, and rescuing them. MIJ is the only market I can afford. Bang for the buck is perfect. We have to keep them affordable so that others can learn the craft and also be able to buy a reasonably priced set of vintage drums that sound good. I know some of these old kits are really amazing, and some have extremely rare wraps, but seriously, can you really imagine paying $750 for a set of Whitehall's? They are basically the same as the Silvertone. Would you ever, in your right mind, even smashed beyond reasoning, pay that for anything other than the rarest of rare MIJ drums? As long as I have been around drums, there has been 1 set of MIJs I have seen that I would have ever even considered that kind of jack and they were on the Japan ebay recently, a set of ultra-rare and drop dead cool WMP Gracy. Other than that, I have a hard time justifying more than 150, maybe 200, and very rarely 250.. Anyway, that is my rant....now, back to "Lost"....

"Ignorance may be overcome through education. Stupidity, however, is a lifelong endeavor." So, educate me, I don't likes bein' ignant...
"I enjoy restoring 60s Japanese "stencil" drums...I can actually afford them..."I rescue the worst of the old valueless drums for disadvantaged Children and gladly accept donations of parts, pieces and orphans, No cockroaches, please...
