Thank you very much!

Well, their sound... I hadn't yet had an opportuinty to play them with new heads and tuned by somebody who knows how to tune (not me, really), but with coated Emperor on the top and coated Ambassador on the bottom, they sound very thumpy, very 70s hard rock. BD is quite nice, IMHO. Don't know about the snare, because it has kinda tricky strainer system and I haven't got it working yet - but their wood snares usually were not anything special.

Generally, these 6 ply Amatis' sound is worse, compared to contemporary American drums, but if carefully tuned with good heads, they might be OK. 3 plies, on the other hand, are a different story, but altough I own 3ply BD a nd FT, I haven't yet got them running so I don't know. But I've heard they are very good.

If these drums lost bottom heads on the way, they very easily might be out of round. Deeper shells are believed to sound better, but they were only made in 80s.

To tension your drums........Bernard Purdie said to start with the BD first,as they is the most annoying if out of tune.

Get it to sound like a BASS drum (not treble drum!),then do FT next, mounted tom(s) next, then snare......

I have tried that for a while now..........seems to work..................
