Hi Guys,

I just stumbled across this forum looking for information on my Ludwig Snare.

Wow I must say this site is easily the most detailed i have come across.

I will have to stick around here as i have already learnt loads from just browsing some of the forums previous posts.

I would like to know which model this is, what the shell is made out of, and also roughly when it was made.

Heres the details:

1. Drum Shell Material - Metal, it looks very similar to another brass shell drum i own...

2. Drum Finish -- Black Chrome

3. Drum Badge -- Blue/Olive Badge with rounded corners.

3. Drum Dimensions -- 6.5x14

4. Serial Number: 3105759

5. Hardware Configuration -- 10 lug, imperial style, triple flanged chrome hoops,

6. Strainer Type -- p85 strainer, (chrome `ludwig` text with black background))

7. The drum has a round internal dampner

Any input on this would be much appriciated,

Thanks in advance.

It looks like a Black Beauty. I can't really tell what's up with that badge, though. It has no grommet!

Thanks so much for the replies.

Ah i thought it was most probs one of those, although i didnt expect it to be as old as late 70`s

How could you tell its age?

Were you going by the serial?

Also, someone mentioned a grommet. What is that?

Is there a part missing?

The link below will help you on the badge identification.

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_badges.html

The grommet is the part that normally holds the badge on. It goes through the hole in the badge and attaches to the drum.

49 - WFL Ray McKinley - 26, 13, 16

And some others..

This company sells the grommets..

Ask them for the instructions on how to install, since you have a metal drum I don't think you want to be banging away with the hammer method..you might want to torque it on.

By the serial number and the rounded corner blue/olive badge. The current models have the Large keystone monroe badge.

Ah thanks.

Is it quite common for these to fall out?

What is their use on a drum?

I certainly never noticed this before. You have exellent eyes for sure.

I think i will get it replaced anyhow as it is a really beautiful drum to play and i would want to have it as it should be in the first place...
