When did Remo appear?

I have a drum I found recently at a garage sale that the people told me their dad quit playing in the fifties and it had not been touched since. The sticks and snare wires were both marked Leedy&Ludwig so that seems to fit the story. My question is how did this drum come to have Remo heads on it? Shouldn't it have calfskin? The drum itself is from the late 1920's.

Remo came around in 1957, so its possible for it to be a 50's period piece.

So this could be one of the first Remo heads? How can I tell? It has a lot of wear, but I don't see anything different than any other Remo head. It says : Weather King Ambassador Batter made in usa.
