14x22 Hayman Gold Ingot Bass drum. I searched for 5 years. Then I just found a battered Hayman set wich I sold for parts and kept the BD shell. It had a extra hole for a Ludwig tom mount on the center. I plugged the hole myself and rewrapped with Delmar's Gold mirror wrap. (Not a dead match wrap but the closest one). Finally I can play my Haymans...

Rogers Wine Red Ripple Powertone.

I bought the kit in 04. 20-12-16. with stands.

Had numerous close calls on finding a matching snare but always something happened to break a deal. Color was off, modifications, condition, price. Mostly, it was color.

One listed on ebay in 08. The pics were crappy. The seller did not seem inclined to provide additional pics.I was high bidder but did not meet his reserve. There was like a 75 dollar difference. I made an offer on the snare at the price I bid, his response was to relist the drum. Then he listed the kit, which had better pics, and showed a horrible condition drumset. I bid on the snare and this time it finished at half the amount the previous auction, again not meeting reserve. We traded emails, I told him his pics sucked, his kit sucked more, and if the kit was any indication of the snare drum, I cut my offer in half. He relisted the drum with no reserve and then cancelled the listing when the bids werent there. Again he relisted, and I figured by this time he should start to see reality, only to find out the screwball had banned me from bidding. He cancelled the auction at the last moment when it did not get to his price. And sold it off ebay.

So, drum is gone.

Two weeks later I got an email from a collector on the east coast who bought the drum knowing I had long searched for it and he sold it to me at his cost plus shipping.

I sent him a priority mail USPS money order, Tracked and everything. It showed being sent. But never having left my local postal facility. My guy doesnt get the package. I file a claim,TWO MONTHS go by and I get a check in the mail from USPS for the amount. On the same day, I received an email that my guy received the MO that day, and cashed it. Then I went through an ordeal with the Post office about the replacement check and assuring my guy that his bank account wouldnt be tapped by a bounced money order.

In all, counting auction hassles, the time spent over the post office hassle, this deal took 4 months to work out.

By the way, ...........the drum....... shes purty.

I haven't been looking that hard because I'm new to vintage drums and am trying to get the basic set in shape. But I have a feeling that 6.5x10 and 14x14 3-ply Slingerland black chrome double-headed toms will be difficult.
