What's this one? MIJ Snare

eBay item 262337119621

Looks most like Tama lugs from the 80's, but I've never seen one of those in white marine pearl. Anyone recognize this drum?

Those are close but not exactly like 1980's Tama Lugs. I have seen those lugs on here before, but the name is eluding me. From the interior it looks to be from the 1960's. I'm adding a few photos from the ebay page.

I have these Zim Gar drums with those same sort of lugs

When I found them, it was the first time I had seen that style of hardware on any other stencil kit

I have since seen a few scattered examples of others like them

the few other Zim Gar kits I have are all Star built

I would bet they are some sort of Star/pre-Tama prototype design

I think you nailed it with a name. Even the butt plate is the same, and I can tell from the tom internal tone control it's the same on the snare. What's the strainer look like?

Here's my Recco snare drum with the same shell, lugs, butt and muffler. The hoops are copies of the Rogers "Tall boy", but even deeper! A really well-built drum!

Jay I think my strainer is like Mark's

That particular drum kit came fitted with a complete set of thin canvas bags

so I bought them from my pal Johnny in Metuchen N.J.

And then never got around to setting them up

They are still at my old shop all bagged and stacked up

I am pretty sure the strainer is like Mark's ..at least I am hoping that thing is awesome looks sort of Roger's clock-face-like to me

That's a quality looking drum!

On a related note, I have a very early Pearl President kit that seems to take the 3-hole mufflers like these Rogers copies (it's missing its mufflers). I thought it had been modified by a previous owner from a 2-hole original but then I found a matching kit that had the same 3-hole pattern. So now I'm on the lookout for the correct mufflers for my President kit. It needed a whole ton of other work but the finish was too cool to pass up and it had no extra holes anywhere...

That's a beauty of a snare. I wish the one on ebay had the strainer. Might make it worth the $119 they are asking. Have a feeling that is a harder strainer to track down.

BTW - I have those rods all packed and ready to go. Just gotta get them out.
