What's the best way to fade my wrap?

Loading...

I just added a 12x14 Radio King to my set, and it was wrapped in new vintage black diamond which doesn't match the "real" vintage BDP of my 40's RK's. Is there a way to accelerate the fading and/or reduce the shininess of the new wrap to look closer to the real thing?

Thanks!

Modern wrap is color fast. It doesnt fade. And what fade you will get will proportionately take years longer than what you replaced.

I can't remember who I heard this from, but they ended up creating a thin paint/stain to recreate the dirty film of a faded wrap. I think this was for WMP so he used a very very thin yellow dye to do the job. Said it worked pretty nice. You might want to try this out. As for reducing shine you could always go at it with some sort of rough surface - though I would be very careful about that. Maybe a very thin grit just to dull it down a bit without any big marks. Good luck!

steel wool worked pretty well. the color is still not right (obviously), but it took the sheen off the wrap making it blend better than it was.

thanks for the input folks!

Glad that worked for ya, I was gonna suggest trying out a tanning bed with a small piece of fresh pearl and see if that would work.
