What to do? old Gretsch 23 x 12 BD....

So, I got this old drum, no hardware for nothing. It has hoops and shell in good shape. What should I do with it? it was a single tension model. My thought was to recover it and make it into a normal shallow drum, but the "vintage drum rescue" guy in me disapproves. Also, finding original hardware may prove difficult...

Thoughts?

Drums like that are seldom worth really restoring to the way they were. I'd either sell it, which ain't easy and you won't get much, use it for a practice kit or use it for some off-the-wall-but-cool project. like:

make a single headed kick with everything attached (cymbal stands, tom or two and maybe even snare) for small gigs... along the lines of a GigPig. The idea is that it would be pretty light with one head and large kicks give you plenty of area to mount stuff on. Plus it would be fast to set up. Being in Hawaii and playing gigs that have that flavor, I would probably finish it in grass skirts (and use bamboo stand parts) so the whole thing would look nuts. That's what came to my mind.

I have a skinny Rogers 28" kick I was thinking of doing that to.

Is it really a 23"?
