My wife and I were watching this one. It was listed with little to no info. It came with the throne and the stand. What is this drum? I was taken in by the lugs and the hoops. Odd little snare. Any takers on what the heck this is? It seems to have Ludwig Imperial lugs with a steel beaded shell. No markings and the seller claims it looks like a Percussion Plus. I put in a bid for the heck of it. What did I just win?
What the heck did I just buy???
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you bought a snare and a drum throne...Laughing H
Sorry, couldn't resist mcjnic.....Need closer pics for my old eyes....hope you didn't bid too much
Looks like a sticksaver hoop on the batter side.
How the hell do you get your wife to watch a drum auction on Ebay, you have a heck of a woman....
...also got the stand! That's what I saw, too. Slingy hoops and Luddy lugs. No idea what the shell holds. Only paid 50-ish for it. LOW bids. Was only 30-ish until the final 15 seconds. I popped a bid as per the wife just to see...I won it. I don't need the thing. Just a fluke. If the snare turns out to be ... icky ... I could turn the hardware for a profit. Odd how these things go.
My wife watches and shops drums for me. She's the one who won the Luddy Blue Strata kit I own. Sweet woman.
Still wondering what this might be. Obviously, when it arrives I'll post more pics. This was taken off the auction tonight. If anyone out there knows what this might be ... please chime in.
There was a Dixon on there a while back, Michael, and that is the same MIJ shell. It appears someone wanted a Supra, but not the cost. That is a Star throw, and it is actually a very good throw, if is has been well cared for. Let us know if they are the real Imperials, or the copies. It will sound great, like any other COS snare, as it is a Star/TAMA shell, and if it is anything like mine, it will have amazing range. Good score, and if you end up not wanting it, keep me in mind, as the boy is thinking he wants a Chrome snare. Cool drums, I love mine, and the strainer is very simple and very effective and smooth as silk. You might actually be very pleasantly surprised after a cleaning and tune up. Now you get to see why I like my old COS MIJ. Hope it's as nice as mine is.

Ia'm thinking 60s M.I.J. snare,I have seen copys of these types over the years of snares in the pass but i can't recall the name of the drum, but iam thinking Crown or some other name made by star..The lugs are pretty close to ludwigs...Mikey
Could be a diamond in the rough...i like the throne...I did the same thing once and ended up with a CB700 10 lugger, heavy steel drum in mint shape for 20 bucks...good luck!
When I get it in, I will be selling/trading it. I have NO need for another metal snare. I use custom thrones due to a coccyx injury and have no need for this throne.
I saw one of these once-an MIJ with bootleg Imperial lugs, but it had regular Ludwig-style triple flange hoops. When I saw it,I could not believe they had gotten away with such a blatant copy without Ludwig sueing. But,they made MIJ blatant ripoff Gretsch lugs too.I think I'd read it was Crown.Neat goofy drum.
That's looks a whole lot like a Sonor to me. The butt looks like Sonor 70's/80's (Phonic etc), and the lugs too.
They used the Imperial lugs around 1935 at the same time Ludwig started using them, and again (god knows why) in the 70's on this one particular snare
It might be the D453, or the deeper version of that snare see here:
If I remember correctly, it's not rubbish, and not worthless.
Edit: Now that I look closer, the butt seems upside down if it were a Sonor, and the Sonor lugs had an extra 'step' on the imperial lugs. Hmm, maybe no Sonor, at first it looked a lot like it...
I had a throne like that recently. It was set at its lowest adjustment and when I went to adjust it up I found that someone had sawn the rest of the pole off. Sooo, I took it down to local auction house with a bunch of other rubbish only for my sister in-law to go to the auction, see the stool, and buy it for me - she thought I'd find it useful.
Some things you'll never sell and some things you can never sell. I guess I'll be keeping this one.
