Ya you`re prolly right, but can I use the I don`t drink excuse ? (never did)
I hear ya though. The size and type of stick prolly matters most. To me it`s how long the thing takes to shut up enough to not hear over my next set of beats. Playing soft is truely when you know how good a cymbal sounds. (at least for me) I can tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap then wack the edge, wait a sec. then hit the bell to end and go into drumming again and it`s not to complicated, But I have trouble sustainning soft cymbal work. That`s why I don`t think about them much.
Moon was my idol and of course I copy his style, It`s a little un-orthidoxed but I don`t like to do the same set of runs over and over like I see on line sound track do. It`ll say ..awsome drum solo, only to find the guy doing the same sh*t over and over really fast. I mix it up. I fill in with more drumming, like Moon. I like to have C-toms up top and the floor and kick resonate heads for diversity. Ya I`ll go back to the same set but it`ll be after I fill inbetween for a bit.
