What snare wires do you use?

Looking for ideas on snare wires, so I thought I would see what brand and how many strands people are using. I will be using one set on a single ply Slingerland maple snare and the other on a Ludwig Supra 400.

as far as the Ludwig is concerned i would try and go with original ones, those still sound fab. if that's not possible, I propose Puresound Custom wires (20 strands) they sound great on Ludwig metal snares.

I don't gig, but when I play <>:

Gotta love my Black Swamp Cable Snares (yes, on my vintage Camco snare drums)!

After that, I like the REALLY WIDE snares (OK, I guess I've just shown the limits to my love of vintage....)

- Current restoration Project: Geo Way 5 piece
- 60's Oaklawn Walnut Camco kit (12/12/14/20) matching Snare (Camco hardware and Paiste black logo 2002s)
- 70's LA Maple Camco kit (12/13/16/22) matching Oaklawn snare (Rogers hardware and Paiste Signatures/Mellow ride)
- 70's Blue Vistalite Ludwig Monster kit (6/8/12/13/14/15/16/18/24) matching snare (all Hercules hardware, all Zidljian shadow logos)

I use on vintage and new snare drums puresound custom snare wires from 16 to 24 strand, and Grover snare wires, the stadium brights, they are great sounding wires! on both wood and metal snare drums and it just depends on the drum's which ones I use!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I try to use factory NOS whenever possible....they always seem to sound best on the appropriate brand drums. Don't know why, can't explain it, they just do! LOL! With that said, in lieu of that, I use Puresound Vintage on the hard to find snare wires that you just can't get anymore, and custom 20 strand on the rest.

I've got 16-strand PureSound Custom wires on my '56 single-ply Slingy and they sound fantastic. The drum seems to have a narrow snare bed. Sympathetic buzz was a problem with anything wider, even by just a few strands.
