I have had lots of drums that look bad when I get them, and when done, look almost new....
People have been amazed...I show them a drum I just got,and 2 days later show them again..
they go "Is that the same drum?"

my concerns are not the scuff marks, or missing parts but the sabatooge from adding alien mounts i go ouch when the drum is early 60's but i love the challenge and i do like playing a beater kit as long as its sounds good no one will try to lift it(steal) its very hard not to want to bring the show drums out unless u add extra security lol
I try to avoid buying anything that needs real skills to fix up (bearing edges, out of round issues, rewrapping jobs) but I have learned at lot so far at VDF and hope to try my hand at restoring a vintage beater one of these days... I've been lucky to find kits that were like out of a timewarp. I stlll have my eye on a Y-badge from the 60s that looks like it's new in the shop window (heads & all). For now I enjoy watching the masters at work here & dreaming.
My 69 Ludwigs were flat out gross!
Had they not have been free I would have passed on them (and regretted it dearly).

Lucky for me they cleaned up well.
