well.....before I got into the vintage stuff I bought a DW WMP kit (used)because I really liked that deep sound. I now own a '66 Ludwig Classic Champagne Sparkle kit (Dino Dinelli played thos color at one time) that I love and a newly aquired early Fullerton Rogers kit that I also love. I wish I had the time and space to line them up together and play one against the other. It would make a great photo op also.

good topic for a post...

My goal is to own one each of the major US brands, so I don't exactly have 1 brand that I am loyal to.

With that said, I have never owned, but would like to own, a Gretsch round badge kit. I have owned round badge snares and hated them, but I have played Gretch RB kits and loved them. So I guess I'd like to be a Gretsch guy.

By defalt I guess I am a Rogers guy since I own 2 complete 60's Rogers kits, and I do Love the way they sound, play, and look.

My first kit in 1966 was a light blue pearl Slingerland reccomended by my drum teacher. My best drummer friend at the time played Rogers. My second, and last, set I bought new in 1971 was Slingerland kick and toms and Rogers cymbal stands and a Dynasonic snare. I've always had a warm spot in my heart for both. Through the years I've traded a lot of snare drums and I have to say I've kept the Dynasonic all of that time and until last year the only Slingerland snare I've owned was part of my first kit. Read into that whatever you want.

I guess that I'm a Kent guy, since that's the only vintage set I currently own. I'd like to be a Gretsch or Rogers guy, because of their sound and future value.

I'd also like to own one of each American vintage makers kit myself, as well as a vintage Sonor, Trixon, etc... kit.

The reality is I'll likely collect Kent's and maybe a couple of cool Japanese kits - I'm a teacher. Not a whole lot of $$$ in that, but it gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling :)

Since I bought my first decent kit about 10 years ago I guess I have been a Ludwig guy. I?ve got a 65 Ludwig 22/13/16 in beautiful faded silver sparkle with a matching Pioneer snare and also a great sounding pitted Supra that came with the kit. Last year I bought another, this time a 55 WFL 22/13/16 in black diamond pearl with a matching super classic snare. I am currently doing a thorough clean/restoration on this set with great help from this website. I?ll be sure to post pic?s when I?ve finished. Both these sets are 100% complete and original with all the matching hardware.

As much as I love the old Ludwig?s I also love the look, sound and quality of 60?s Rogers. I?ve learnt everything I know about them from this forum and have actually just purchased my first Rogers kit from a well known member of the vintage drum community. It?s getting shipped to me at the moment and can?t wait for the big day when it arrives, hopefully in as excellent condition as I purchased it. It?s a blue glass glitter Cleveland era kit in the rare 20/12/14 sizes and I already have the 7 line COB Dyna-sonic waiting to meet up with the kit. I guess I officially have the vintage drum bug and the more I learn about them the more I like all the old brands of the 50?s & 60?s, not just the American ones. I?d love to one day have a set from each of the main manufactures of the era, and enough room to keep them all. Ludwig and Rogers, that?s my story, so far.

Cheers.

Ludwig

Y?

'cause that's what my mammy and pappy bought me back in '64.

Guess if they bought me Slingys I'd be a Slingy guy.....

Oh yea, with Zildjies 'cause that's all there was worth hitting back then.

I'm a Ludwig guy. My father played them. Some of my first memories are of watching him play those drums. I've been playing and recording with his kit that he was gigging with 40 years ago. I don't care what anyone says, those drums sing as good as Ella did.

I also own a Rogers Holiday kit and can't complain at all about them. The Swiv-O-Matic is great but the Ludwig's will always be my favorites.

What is YOUR company and why? From the looks of it, there seems to the most of Rogers guys.I'm a Ludwig guy. Joe Morello got me hooked into the sound of those 60s 3-ply shells with a Supraphonic snare. I love the other companies and the drums they made and plan to have a few of theres, but my heart goes with Ludwig all the way.
