The reason I ask this is because I want opinions on different types of brushes that you folk here may use.
Right now I have Vic Firth "Jazz" ones and they are heavy and unpleasing so I am in the market for a "lighter" brush.

I play a lot of jazz and a good 70% is with brushes. I use the Regal Tip 583R. They have very strong wires and are heavy enough to feel like you've got something in your hand.

I actually use both of the above mentioned brushes and I agree with both. The Vic Firtch jazz brushes are a little stiff and heavy, but I like to use them when playing in louder situations, esp when there are multiple horn players. The downside of them is the white handles are plastic, so I ussualy never play cymbal swells with the handles.
I am not sure if I am using 583R model, but the Regal tips I use are much lighter, softer, sensitive, and nowhere near as stiff, so I like to use them when playing with my guitar trio . The handles are also rubber, so you can flip them over to get a "mallet like" effect when playing the cymbals.
Both are great brushes.
I also have used Calatto brushes which resemble vintage Ludwig brushes with their red rubber handle. They are a great brush too, but they keep retracting into the handle as I play and do not lock in place the way the others do. They are also much harder to find, but usulally a little cheaper.
My overall suggestion would be the Regal tips.
Whatever those traditional black rubber handle retractable ones that RegalTip makes are called.
