What is this type of snare drum?

Loading...

Hello everybody!I have 20 years old snare that don't have any kind of serial number or mark on it, so I don't know what kind of snare it is. I have both it from some old guy and he told me that this snare might be Sonor, but I am not so sure on that. Maybe someone from this forum can tell me what kind of snare is it. Snare is 14x8, metal, 10 lugs.Tnx

Welcome This could be a Star King Beat, or a Pearl Jupiter of some sort, but the crimps in the shell are maybe not correct. It looks like a badboy, no matter who made it. Maybe Ralf is the one, as this is more than likely a European or Japanese made drum. The parellel strainer suggests a higher quality drum.

jonnistix: you asked for me - here I am.

I don't know this drum, but I have an excellent tip for Kovac:

Send him an e-mail: steger@drummermagazin.de

You may even ask him in English. If that drum is from Europe he certainly knows it.

If someone feels those lugs are interesting then let me share a way you too can have that cool style. I have seen brushed stainless drawer pulls (cabinet drawer handles) that are very similar at many home repair stores. I imagine that you could use a drill press to drill and tap the ends for the T rods.

This drum is totally unfamiliar to me.I'd be looking for eastern european links for starters. Those lugs, though cool looking.are probably not the best way to go.Alot of strain on a small footprint.Maybe Amati,or Tromsa,or a Russian brand?Never seen tube lugs on an asian 70's drum, and it does look 70's.
