What is this Ludwig mounting bracket?

Loading...

I was going through the parts bucket looking for Ludwig 1216 mounting brackets.

I did find one and I found this other somewhat similar mounting bracket. I am not quite sure what it is, what it came off, and where I got it.

The mystery part is more rounded than the more familiar P1216.

Does anybody know where these Ludwig brackets were used?

I tossed in a picture of the P1216D for comparison.

thanks

Hi rastus!

The bracket in question is the P1672, which came out in the early 60's. It was a poor design, because the thumbscrew supplied pressure directly into the knurled tom L arm or floor tom leg. Good enough to hold floor tom legs, but not so much for holding toms! And, having the screw directly contacting the knurled section would wear it down fairly fast. The solution was the P1216, followed by the P1216D. The original P1216 was built like a tank internally. The P1216D came in different internal versions over the years, but all where subject to internal wear.

Yea, that's it!

Back in the early 80's I bought a Ludwig Standard bass drum that I stripped, recovered and replaced the hardware to match my Hollywood set. This is maybe a bass drum leg mount or cymbal arm mount off that drum.

Thanks

Rastus!

The Standard series would have come with the pictured brackets, used for leg mounts, cymbal mounts and tom mounts. The bass drum you purchased probably had the P1672 as a replacement. Same hole spacing as all other Ludwig brackets!
