What is the worth of this '71 Ludwig Big Beat Kit Last viewed: 3 days ago

Loading...

Hello,

I would like some opinions on the value of a kit that was for sale on ebay for months and never sold. I'm sure many have seen it.

It's a 4-pc with a 14x24 bass, 16x18 ft, 10x14 & 9x13;

3-ply shells with red silk wrap.

Hopefully the photos are still accessible. Any opinions on its value would be appreciated.

Looks like a nice vintage Ludwig kit!

BIG sizes, would have to find the right buyer.

Not an expert, but I'd say the $500 range, depending on the condition in person.

A kit like that can be cost prohibitive to ship, selling on eBay. Probably why it didn't sell.

Craigslist it, might have better luck.

In those sizes that would likely be a "Pro-Beat" minus the 16x16 that they normally had . The Big Beat outfit was 12/13/16/22. Not that I'm one to get all wrapped up in catalog names.

Looks like a cool set and Red Silk is a neat color.

Thanks, Schmegeggie. Ya, those are definitely rock sizes. I've never seen a red silk wrapped Ludwig for sale, but I'm not an expert at all. Maybe the red silk isn't a popular color.

Thanks K.O., based on the pics what do you think it's worth?

I never sell stuff and like to buy cheap so I'm not that in touch with the real market but I'd say these ought to be worth $500-$800 depending on condition. Nice "rock" sizes that you don't see everyday.

Considering a gold sparkle mint Hollywood is for sale for 900, on cl Chicago .

I think the lower number mite be right in this economy.

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I agree with K.O. that looks to be a very nice kit.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

This seems to be an unfair statement, but solid wraps just don't sell for very much money. White cortex, black cortex etc. sell for about 3/5ths what a oyster blue pearl or sparkle kit would sell for.

Clip mount makes me wonder if those are converted concert toms. Probably lowers the value although I can't say by how much.

It'd be a no-sale for me: the clip mount provides limited flexibility, even more so with a 24' bass drum.
