What is the best way to stick a blue/olive badge back on?

Loading...

I just finished polishing a Ludwig acrolite snare that I bought at a pawn shop. Most of the badge was gone, but it still had a portion of it. Its the pointy one, so it needs to have the point glued down pretty good. I bought another one off of ebay. I read that the pointy badge would snag on things and therefore Ludwig started rounding the corners of the badge, because customers were complaining. What is the best way to stick it back on? I tried 3M double stick tape an it started lifting back up. I tried hot glue and that was a disaster! lol. I have both surfaces all cleaned back now. I was thinking about the hybond tape that comes with a new drum wrap. I read on here "how to rewrap a drum" it says to use epoxy to hold the grommet in place. Any input will be appreciated.

Hi-bond double stick 'red tape' (the variety which drummaker.com sells for $35/roll..and which is WAY better than the stuff jamminsam sells)....would probably do the trick.

You could also try 3M or DAP contact cement (flammable, airplane-glue-aroma variety) on both the badge and the shell.

I buy contact cement or glue 80 5 gallon pales at a time for my shop lol. I think the hybond sounds like good idea if I wanna wait. I have the area that the badge goes all taped off. I could try the contact glue I guess. Brush it on both surfaces and let it dry and then stick it.

Thanks jaye!

I went down to my shop this morning and got me a lil jar of dap weldwood contact glue and a grommet tool we use to install grommets on canvas and stuff. I sanded the back of the badge with course sandpaper and the area where to badge goes. This allows the glue to adhere better to a smooth surface, We do this all the time at my trim shop. i applied the glue on both surfaces and let it dry. It's a stuck son-of-gun now. Well now the grommet installation. The grommet I recieved with the badge was about twice as long as it should have been, I used my grommet tool to get it to flare then used two ball-peen hammers to finish the job. The d*m thing split. It looks good on the front of the drum, but it totaly looks like sh*t on the back side. Where can I get another grommet for 1/8" thickness?

That is EXACTLY my current predicament. The grommets I have are just too dang long. My shells are thin. Someone please answer this one. I've split the grommet and then removed it again. It's really buggin' me. I don't have the means to 'trim' the grommet to the correct length. I don't have one of those really sweet tool/hobby shop setups. Help.:(

I just found this. They have long and short gromets/eyelets, as well as screw on ones.
