What is the best way to mask off the Lug holes on a Snare drum?

Loading...

Hey guys, I am going to be Re-Lacquering/Re-Sealing the interior of a Snare Drum shell and would like to know the best way to mask off the lug holes on the interior. I am going to be using blue painters tape for the bearing edges, but for the lugs holes I am not sure. Do they make any kind of masking tape or something in the shape of these holes? Something that will mask the holes off in a way that covers the entire hole diameter. I do not want X shaped mask off holes/tan lines that show up from where I masked off the lug holes from using blue painters tape. Any ideas would be great. Thank you. Phil:

I have a similar project on the back burner and have purchased the correct size dowels to fill the lug, strainer, etc. holes during the finishing process. Sears Hardware also sells tapered cork plugs in assorted sizes that would also do the job.

Have fun!
