What does stamp P in shells means? Slingerland?

I have a Slingerland from 1972/1973 ( according to badge and serie nr)

Inside the shells are a huge stamp P. And no date. What does that letter mean?

Hello,That "P" inside the slingerland shells is for a plastic covering..The shell was not good to do a wood finish[stain on the outside of the shell]...mikey
