What Did My $50 Buy?!? Junk, Maybe? Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hi, everyone,

Went on a field trip today and came back with what appears to be a not so beautiful Ludwig Rocker Set. The badges are Black & White with rounded points, NO SERIAL NUMBERS. The insides are painted kinda brown speckled. The black wrap is CRAP but the shells themselves are round with nice bearing edges...hardware looks sorta pitted but I cleaned up one lug and it shines up with an "orange peel" finish to it...not smooth like brand new chrome pieces...but I think acceptable if I was going to put them back together again. I doubt that I will, but I was just interested in what age these might be. Take a look, if you would, and tell me if it was a wasted field trip. Oh, Yeah, the best part is they smell like a combination of cigarette smoke and cat pee!!!Laughing H

I am not a fan of ludwig rockers but for $50 you cant lose. Looks like classic lugs so your money was well spent just for the lugs. Find someone who is selling bare 6ply shells on the cheap and use your new found hardware to complete an inexpensive kit.

You can get $50 for the tom mount....

strip the shells, and either keep the lugs/claws/rods for "down the road" for a Super Classic......or......sell them, and triple your $50 plus.................

Then, shell the bare shells with badges attached, and get even more...........

Well, thanks for the input, I do have to say the pictures are kinda flattering, they really look like they've been "beaten" pretty good. The hoops and hardware pieces are fairly ratty with pits and rust. I have already stripped 'em down with the intention of parting it out. (Who needs a Tom Mount!!!???) I almost feel like I'd have to take the time to polish and clean all the hardware before I could sell it in good conscience. Hmmmm

Here's a few more closeups including a before and after on one lug.

$50 for a full set of hardware basically. Gotta luv that! Find those bare shells and go nuts.

See if kadrocker will make a decent offer and pass on the love.
