What color are my Gracy's?

Loading...

I know this was a popular color not only for MIJ's, but for all 60's/70's drums.

I believe these to be from the late 60's. I always thought they were "Black Diamond Pearl", but I think true BDP is mostly black, no?

What say you guys? Vintage Sky Blue?

I tried to show a couple different angles, including one with the contrast of the black hoop.

Thanks for your help!

This clearly seems to be BDP. Why would you even doubt it ? ?

Well, I have seen this type of pearl pattern on drums that are darker and more Black, such as this:

Mine might be "Black Diamond Pearl", but they are really more Silverish Gray as a dominant color, with black accents.

Just curious, I guess. I always thought "Sky Blue Pearl" or "Vintage Sky Blue Pearl" looked more light gray than anything else.

Oh, the mysterious origin of Drum Wrap names!

Certainly looks like Classic BDP to me,Like Oddball said, there are a few different versions of WMP some have bigger or smaller "Chunks" or "Flakes" or a slightly different pattern. The wrap companies changed it up from time to time.

I have seen BDP's that much white or silver in them, with smaller Flakes or tighter pattern, but I have seen quite a few that look just like yours.

Aging/fade could be contributing to the whiteness you are seeing also IMO

I think BDP too. The light blue pearl or sky blue as some call it aged and faded does have a grey color to it but also yellowish green hues where the blue has faded. My late 60's kit is LBP but looks like a very faded BDP sometimes. Both are great looking colors that's for sure!

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
