What color are my drums? Please help

What color are my drums?

I play on a 1980s Gretsch and its a mix of dark red and some black.

Check out the pics. 1st is bass drum. 2nd is floor tom. 3rd is close up

Also, do you find color mixing on drum sets a big deal?

I might buy some more gretsch toms from a friend to add to my set and I already know the colors don't match. They are catalina birch. Does catalina birch and the color in the below pictures a close enough match? Its as close as I can get.

Thanks so much guys!!!

Hi there! Judging by some of my older Gretsch catalogs, the closeup color appears to be Rosewood. A beautiful color! However, it almost appears that the bass drum might be Walnut. Maybe others will now!

I think even on a nice stage/upscale venue with lighting and video production- you would be ok with various shades of rosewood or other wood tints combined.

I would say Walnut; lighter pics would help. I own a mid-70's walnut kit (attached). Are yours about this color?

Mine is same design as yours but in your picture it looks more "orange-ish"... Mine is more red. I have done some research and my only guesses are either rosewood or some walnut color (WWM). I'll post a brighter picture later today.

Hard to say for sure, but they look like walnut to me. Gretsch walnut was mainly brown; rosewood was a fairly pronounced red.

Awfully hard to tell for sure. My rosewood finish is almost that dark and not very close to AZBill's walnut finish.

I am leaning toward rosewood, but I don't think the lighting in the photos is helping at all.

Heh. Just saw the pics on a different monitor, and now they look like rosewood to me. Can you get pics in natural light for us?

My vote is Rosewood, I had a walnut kit from the same era and it was much more brown.

Hi again,

Might help to pop the hoops off for a pic or two.

The original stain may be easier to make out where daylight hasn't hit. On my kit that is where the original colour shows best.

cheers,

Patrick
