Premier seems to be the only company that was advertising Duroplastic wraps. I would think it was a proprietary product and of course how were they to know , that it would not stand the test of time----at least in terms of cracking.I would think, it had to be cheaper, otherwise ,why would they abandon the tried and true? I've got lots of examples of drums as old as the 40's, possibly even 30's with Celluloid wrap and nary a one has large cracks due to shrinkage. This is the problem with the Duroplastic stuff----it shrinks. I had a 1965 Beverley kit in for repair and it had a jagged crack on the bass drum the entire length of the drum and another crack almost 1/2 way around of the same type.. There was an 1/8" gap in the cracks. I pulled the lugs and mounts and had to peel the wrap(it was very tearable(also terrible)), reset it together ,on the visible seam , leaving almost 1/4" on the lower right, which I trimmed straight and filled with a piece cut off along the edge of the shell -----but the wrap had seriously shrunk. This only happens a little with the celluloid wrap and it stays more pliable.
The other thing about the Premier stuff was that some of it had a pebbly surface , rather than a glossy smooth surface. I don't know whether it was like that new but it certainly got that way.
