hi there

ive got a 70s black gretsch kit with 2 bas drum mounted toms. Theyve got an utterly useless tom holder, which has seen better days.

Can any on ehelp with ideas for replacing the tom holder on the bass drum and on the toms themselvers- any suggestions would be most welcome. Im just starting out playing and its very frustrating when every time i hit the tom it falls off!

best wishes

RIMS mounts on a stand, or possibly 2 snare stands for the toms. DO NOT drill ANY new holes in any drums to attatch different mounts. This will completely kill the resale value of your kit, not to mention you will never be able to show your face here again (just kidding, but seriously it is a big no no!). Gretsch didn't have the best hardware, especially the 70s models, but any alteration will be a serious down grade in value.

I completely 2nd that motion "DO NOT PUT EXTRA HOLES IN YOU DRUMS!!!!!" Yeah mounting hardware has never been gretsch's strong point, just mount em on a snare drum stand, it works very well and looks cool, Jumping2

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Warning!! This might sound dumb: Not knowing which of the '70's Gretsch mount systems you have, could you not just replace what you have with a "Monster-Tom" style mount? These mounts came on '70's drums and I don't think replacing what you have, with a "Monster" system, would harm your kit's vintage-ness; might keep it that way. Maybe it would take the assistance of a pro repair guy, but perhaps this might be a more suitable solution? My "Monster-Tom" system is original and has not failed or given me any problems in the 32 years I've owned them. Just a thought. The rims-mount and snare stand solutions would be easier and probably less costly, but not vintage (if that matters).

using a couple pearl ss mounts that clip on the rim. they work for small, light toms. they hold the drums firm and detach easy.

Do your shells have the black or white hex ball type mount with the big circular chrome plate and if removed would leave you this?
