what are these? majestic?

Loading...

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum.

Today i bought some drums and I thought I knew what they were, but now I'm not sure. One is a majestic deluxe floor tom. The rest of the kit: 14" snare, 20" kick, 12" tom are single lug drums with no badges but the same sparkle finish as the floor tom. The snare says made in japan on the strainer. I'm attaching some pics. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Welcome aboard! The snare, mt and bass are all Pearl, the Majestic was made by Star (which you may know, or not, is now TAMA), so this is a mix-n-match. The Pearls are likely a Valencia kit, and all are nice drums. The Star/Majestic is likely not a match, as far as the shell is concerned, because most of them are 9 ply, not 3 ply like the Pearl Valencia. Good drums, hope you didn't pay "too much". As far as if you need any pointer as to get the best sound out of them, let me know, it's "what I do", getting the best out of MIJ drums. I love the look. As far as heads, give Aquarian Z-100 Coated a try.

For the snare, I have a few tricks to get them up to a really good sound. Most people consider MIJ snares to be woefully sub-par, and yet I can tweak the last note out of them and make them sound awesome. Is it easy? Yes and no...but a little work never hurt a low standard drum. I can tell you, that snare, especially, will growl if you follow my instructions.

Thanks for your reply! I'd love any thoughts you have on how to make em sound good. As for price, i paid $50 including some cymbals and old hardware so I think I did okay! i paid more in heads!
