What are these? Anyone know?

Greetings All Vintage Drum Lovers.

I need help from people that know (as I'm just a beginner drummer, (longtime musician). I just picked up this old and slightly beat up set for $500.00, with all the cymbals and hardware included. The guy I bought them from knew nothing about drums, he was closing down his demo studio, getting rid of everything. They sound GREAT! But, I don't know what they are!

I had a very good and knowledgeable drummer come out and help me set up and he started me on the life long philosophical and metaphysical path to tuning (thank goodness the snare that came with the set, a very cool DW stamped - dated 1985 with a big C for a starting tone for tuning. The drummer friend stated he has never seen anything that looked like this kit but he said he thought the drums were "some kind of old custom" Pearls. The bass drum looks like it has never been drilled or fitted to have toms mounted directly to them. I could find nothing on the internet on a Pearl set by the name of "Gospel Drums," but sure enough the drums (but for the DW snare) all have a "Gospel Drums" badge on them. I guess the badges can be custom made?

Anyway, looks like someone in the past may have updated some of the mounting hardware on the toms, and of course there is a mixture of stands with this set with the high hat and bass drum pedal both newer (and good) units.

I found one picture out of 100s looked that kind of looked like this kit by the make of Whitehall made in Japan by Pearl. Also I found a thread on the Pearl web sight talking about a Whitehall kit with a natural finish made from Philippine Mahogany (Lauan?) but he didn't have any pictures. So, I'm hoping that someone out there might know more.

Because of the cymbals and DW snare I know I got a good deal and honestly, the drums all have good heads and actually sound good to me... Great to learn on.

What are these? Anyone know?

Thanks!!!!!!!

Here's a few pics.

OK - Like I recall reading elsewhere (the other thread you discussed this deal) - Yes, you did get a decent deal. In fact, if the drums sound good to you - potentially a great deal. You indeed appear to have alot of value in the cymbals there - though still not quite able to see everything you have there clearly.

Seems you are able to figure the snare out just fine -

As for the toms/bass - We need some more pics.

Please post the following:

-Clear pics of any and all badges on any of these drums - and we may need to know where they are (which drum) if there are 2 or more badges on these.

-Pic(s) of the Spurs/leg mounts off the Bass drum/leg mounts for the Floor tom as well.

-Confirm there is no other mounting hardware ("virgin" Bass Drum right? - meaning no tom mounting hardware on it right?

-Please reveal if there are any extra holes on any of the drums and where they are (possible pics if necessary)

-Pics of the interior of one of these drums (both/all if differences between these 4 drums)

That should give us alot more to work with.......

Meanwhile, thse ARE Pearl lugs, though not necessarily a "Pearl" drumset. It could be made by Pearl, but badged as some other brand (like this Gospel you mention?)

Thanks for these pics so far - but we know what we need to see - and just can't see all those features here.

Best news is the feedback that you did just fine and possible got a GREAT deal.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Just the cymbals are worth a fair amount, so you did good on this one :) Now the badge in the second pic is definitely a Pearl (as are the lugs), so this could be a Pearl-clone Japanese kit with one or two original Pearl items.

Thanks Drummer John and Alex! I'm out of town but as soon as I get back I will post more pictures ( as mentioned by John) so there will be more information as to just what these drums are. They really do sound good to me, great possibilities!
