I have seen Sherwood drums mentioned occasionally, have seen one in person (a concert bass drum) and noticed some on the "bay today. What are Sherwood drums? They look 30's-40's vintage with tube lugs and tacked heads.

In the 1930's, Leedy made drums for the Montgomery Ward catalogs and they were re-named and sold as Sherwood drums. The Leedy/Ludwig Co. continued the trend in the 50's. Guitars and other instruments carried the Sherwood name just like the Sears catalog used "Silvertone" on their instruments. By 1970, they were all MIJ. Don't know if these catalogs are used anymore but when I was a kid in the 50's they were a big deal when they arrived in the mail....especially the Xmas edition.
That is a totally new piece of information to me- so who made "Silvertone" drums in the 30's-50's?
Silvertone were guitars, right?

Yep, archtops or flat. Big necks nothing special at the time. Find a minty one in case good coin now. Still nothing to write home about :-)

check these Sears catalog pages out from the 40's. Also a cool thread started by o-lugs.
