I agree on the the Supras from the early 80's sounding just as good as 15 yrs previous...Just played it today and it was specatacular!!!
What age is my Ludwig Snare
STIXOFIRE: I cannot answer your question about the reason for the early 12 hole throwoffs. Ludwig may have had leftovers, or maybe snares with OR without serial numbers for the years of 1980-1984 still being produced in the Chicago factory(before the move to Monroe) still used the old throwoffs, I don't know. Others on this forum are more knowledgable about drums and should be able to provide answers. I really don;t think there is much info beyond 1979 for Ludwigs and most will only be able to give opinions. My hope is that as these drums age and become vintage the interest in them will cause someone, somewhere to dig up more information on them, but that may not happen because the opinions about the quality of ludwig drums after 1979 is questionable in most collectors and musicians minds. With Ludwig anything is possible. They made thousands upon thousands of Supraphonics, and had boxes full of P-85's that were put on the drums. Ludwig's transitional periods all have big overlaps, so I would not be at all surprised if there was a 2 hole strainer on a '78 drum or a 12 hole on an '86. Also, strainers are known to break, and 12 hole and 2 hole are both available on ebay on a regular basis. Most drummers would not care (or even notice) which was which.
I agree with mlvibes. ^^^

I appriciate all the feedback..and I'll tell ya this.....I've got a "few" vintage snares... but this Supra knockes my socks off!
I love to tune the snare head "Down" more than most...This drum gives a tremendous punch and "Slap" tuned like this....Just flat out SWEET!
Thanks again everyone!!!
