What Adhesive to Use for Ludwig Wrap Seam Lifting Last viewed: 2 days ago

Hey all,

What type of adhesive should I use to glue the wrap seam on my 1970 Ludwig OBP Bowling Ball tom? It has just started to lift (mildly) in a couple of places, so I want to glue it back down before it becomes a problem. I was told that the glue Ludwig had switched to in the early 70's wasn't as strong as the glue used in the 60's. Why fix something that isn't broke?

Sorry I don't have a pic but the wrap has just started to lift.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers

Yep. Me, too. But, some people advise to not use Super Glue because it may do....something....I forget....lol....but that's what I used and it worked very well. Apparently others have had good results as well. :)

Hello

I spoke to LUDWIG last week about this same problem.

They said to use Contact Cement, Thats what they use on all their repairs.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen...The VDF comes through again for me...Now come to think of it, I did hear that contact cement works great on adhering wrap. I suppose Super Glue would work too, but, I'd be afraid of the possibility of "burning" the wrap as it cures. O-Lugs, was this what you were trying to remember? LOL!!

Again, thanks all

Cheers

LOL! Yeah...it was something like that. Eye Ball But honestly, I used it and the results were very good. This was years ago and still no problems...so I'm not so sure it does anything bad -at least to blue sparkle wrap.

Make sure you use the solvent based contact cement. They make a water based and a solvent based (I think it's toluene).

You can tell because it has that good old fashioned smell. LOL

Some people here have posted that the super glue will crystallize. I have used contact cement on seams and hoop inlays and it works very very good.

I would use contact cement (yellow solvent base) plus I would use masking tape (painters blue 4" ) to ge a clean seam !! Tape the top of the seam, then the bottom, peel back and use a small paint brush going in circles Let dry for 10 minutes and be sure to roll down the seam with a seam roller or rolling pin at and angle (don`t roll up and down the seam,...it will wrinkle ) before removeing the tape. Rolling the seam ensures pressure contact !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Ok heres a tutorial on re gluing lifting wrap. I use a heat gun, but others on here dont recommend this, I use acetone to clean both surfaces to be glued. I like the extremly flamable solvent based contact adhesive natural color (yellow)
