This is why I'll never try to figure out e-Bay auctions. Here's an example of a Slingerland floor tom that sells for $871.11 more than was offered just seven days earlier. I just don't get it.

I never try to figure out eBay auctions...

A couple years ago I sold some amateur radio items. I put them on a 'buy it now or best offer' thing for $200.00. I had a couple watchers but no offers at all. When that ended, unsold, I put it on a seven day auction. It went for $405.00.

Go figure...

This has also happen to me on ebay selling parts..I start my auctions at 9.99 part will sell for 75.00+ on a 7 day auction..You know me i always have more than one.I start a new auction right after the first one ends same part and that auction ends at less than 20.00...I guess that's ebay for you...Mikey

what i find is that you have people like sharks they smell blood on the waters and go in a feeding frenzy, then they all disappear and you could be all day in the water with a filet and no bites, it depends on the location of the sharks at the moment so to speak the best bait does not assure a record catch .

This is exactly correct and it's what makes valuation of vintage drum prices (based on sold items on eBay) next to impossible. It goes that same way with parts, individual drums and full drum sets. jaghog's shark-example is the perfect analogy.
