It stands for William F Ludwig Drum Co. The ludwigs left the Ludwig& Ludwig company in 1930 and went out on their own again. COnn owned the name and wouldn't let the Ludwigs use their name so they used their initials....WFL.....until they bought the name back in 1955, then it became the Ludwig drum company again.
