WFL Super Classic snare in Gold Sparkle?

Loading...

I checked most of the old catalogues for the 1950s and 1960s. Did Ludwig make a gold sparkle? Or was this drum re-wrapped? Or do I have the wrong era? See below

Yes, Ludwig did make a gold sparkle. Just curious, why are you questioning the originality of the drum wrap?

The finish on that drum is original. WFL and Ludwig always had gold sparkle.

WFL's version (into the '60s Ludwig era) was the "glitter" version like on the drum shown. (In the '60s, Ludwig started using the "confetti" version of the sparkle.)

The modern, available repro gold glitter is much darker than the drum in your photo.

I had that same drum once...

WFL always had gold sparkle in the catalogs. Even all the way back to the first WFL catalog around 1937-8. I don't think WFL/Ludwig have ever not had gold sparkle. Rich is correct about the glitter glass thing though. Ludwig went to a regular sparkle around 1959-60 and have been that way ever since.
