Could anyone tell me when WFL used the P83 style strainer as opposed to the "can opener" style which I can see on most of their catalog snare drums.

Hi d rummer, I haven’t heard the term “can opener” strainer before but I assume you mean the WFL Classic Strainer (1955-1969). I don’t have any catalogs with me at the moment but I know the Classic Strainer was on the Buddy Rich Super Classic model snare. This strainer was still used when the name changed to Ludwig. Seems like this strainer was put on the higher end snare drums. Hope this helps.
