WFL help needed! Last viewed: 4 days ago

Acquired a 1958 Buddy Rich Super Classic in SBP. I have a couple questions, and hope to get the correct answers here....Not a doubt in my mind on that one! I will try to download a few pictures but have been having some issues with that as well...so for the meantime, possibly I can explain, or if someone can send a picture of their own, that would be very helpful as well! Both the issues I have concern the 22" bass.

#1 The rail mount is centered on the top between the two classic lugs on the batter side. It looked strange to me, and there is no extra holes. Is this correct?

#2 I have 2 (looks to be L-Arm clamps, but only have the 1/4-20 threads attached). One is at 2 o'clock, and the other is at 10 o'clock. They are centered between the classic lugs on the batter and reso. Is the one on the left an add on, or was it factory for a universal player?

Any help would be appreciated....as well as if you have a couple clamps around collecting dust! Will place that order in the wanted section.

Thanks as always!

would love to see some pics of that! are they wfl badged or Ludwig transition badges?

the 57 catalog shows the buddy rich setup with a rail mount. the picture has the rail mount to the left of the center of the drum. but, Ludwig was known to use old pics that did not depict things properly. it does however show a shell mount cymbal holder in both the 10 and 2 o'clock positions.

Mike,

All 4 are WFL, the snare and 13 are stamped June 5, 1958, and the bass and floor are not stamped. Will try to download a photo.

Thanks,

Nevin

those are so classy. sky blue pearls are my favorites. I like that particular shade that yours appear to have.

well, as you know, that's the right rail for that drum. looks a little different sandwiched in where its at. but, even if it was on the left, it would still need to be in between the lugs to allow for the mount that's on the drum. looks like its been there the whole time to me.

those really are beautiful..

Thanks Mike. Just cleaned up the 13 in the photo. All original (I believe) with COB hoops. No wrap issues one. Interested?

My sbp super classic is about ten years newer than yours(1967) but looks about twenty years older. Beautiful wrap on those.

Isn't the left side cymbal holder for a splash, like on buddy's actual set?

I like Drums...

1964 Leedy (Slingerland) Blue n Silver Duco
1964 Ludwig Club Date Sparkling Silver Pearl

Nevin,

Those look GREAT! In good a shape as your "birthday" kit, huh?

Where did you find them?
