WFL Buddy Rich Snare Rescue

Loading...

No problem guys, feel free to discuss. The history of these instruments is half the fun.

As far as the drum goes... Stripping the paint was a losing battle, and I ended up having to remove the wrap. That was no fun (especially the few times it caught fire). Now I'm waiting for the filler to dry on the reso bearing edge. Tomorrow I'll finish the mahogany with wipe on poly.

Well, I got side tracked with real life for a few days. But I've now got the shell all cleaned up and ready for poly. The bearing edges are repaired and evened out. You can see in the pictures that I ended up with a burn mark from the wrap removal. It's right by the badge too. That just adds character though. You can see from our dining room table that I like character.

Finally working on the clearcoat! Here it is after the 2nd coat (it's still wet in the picture).

potsy24!

Agreed with kevins!! You have done an amazing job on this drum. What started as.. LITERALLY .. a POS, is now BEAUTIFUL! Very nice on the various repairs made using filler too!

It's all done! Just waiting for the right snare wires and a batter head to come in the mail. I absolutely love how this drum turned out. I don't usually like nickel as much as chrome, but I think it goes together perfectly with the dark mahogany. This one will definitely be a keeper. It's hard to get the finish in pictures, but I'm more than happy with the results. I ended up with 5 coats of Minwax Wipe-On Poly and a coat of paste wax. I had to do a little more work on the bearing edges to get everything flat. Now it's tuning up great. I can't wait for the wires/head so I can play it! I know it's not a flawless collector piece, but this may be my favorite drum ever. Oh, and once I got the paint off and got a better look at the badge, I could see that this is a 55-59 drum, not 48-52.

Beautiful drum. I wish I could get nickel to shine like that.
