The pioneer is a 6 lug model a jazzfest is an eight lug model. also the pioneer wouldn't have the p 87 throw off as you've shown.

Definitely not the Buddy Rich Classic, as that was 8 lugs .. and .. should have the P88 butt. Still, nice looking drum! Here's a 1955 WFL BR model out of my collection ...

If that's a 6 lug snare with the Classic throwoff, that's probably a Porto-Pak snare which is a 5 1/2 x13.

Ah!... optical illusion on some of those pics make it LOOK like a possible 6 lug drum! So... if it has 8, and the butt is the P88, then it's a Buddy Rich Classic model. If it has a stamped butt, then technically it's not a Buddy Rich ... but it still is a Buddy Rich in build as that didn't change! It was the specific hardware on his model that made it his model. Sound wise though ... no difference!

It is weird to see only three lugs and think eight lug though.

Little stumped on this one. Are you sure that the last photo is the interior of the first photo? Bowtie lugs only have two screws, however your photo shows 4.... Which coincides with the classic lugs.

Interestingly enough, I DO own one with SPLAY! ... but before I go into that, let me say this:

oddball: Nah... I'm not going to close this thread because you wrote SPLAY, as that wasn't the reason I closed that other thread anyway, and I'm sure you know that. Or maybe you don't! Hard to tell sometimes! The actual reason for the CLOSE was that the bickering and general snarkiness, while certainly entertaining!, had reached it's apogee. It was time as it was only going to continue to degrade. So there you have it! Regarding the drum I have with SPLAY though...

... it's my 1973 Fibes 5.5X14 SFT 690/COF Buddy Rich out of the BR snare drum collection. By 1973, CFMartin was in full control of the manufacturing, Bob Grauso having sold them the company in 1970. CFMartin made a few nice improvements during their watch, such as painting the interiors of the fiberglass drums BLACK for a much improved aesthetic!, but ... for whatever reason, the snare drums they built had MAJOR splay, unlike the drums built prior by Bob Grauso, which had little to none! Easy for me to make these comparisons as I own three Fibes SFT 690/COF snare drums: 1966/67 ... 1967/68 ... and the 1973 mentioned here. Anyway, here's a pic of the 1973. Have a gander! Now THAT, is some SPLAY. Doesn't effect the tuning/tensioning or sound ... but looks UGH.
