Loading...

I am looking for the following 50's era WFL Aqua Sparkle 3-ply complete drums, the style with separate lugs for top and bottom heads, in good to excellent condition:

18X20 or 18X22 bass drum

14" and 16" Floor toms

12" and 13" toms

If you have any of these drums and wish to sell them, please contact me.

Thanks

WFL never made drums in "aqua sparkle"

perhaps you're referring to blue sparkle ? ("sparkling blue pearl")

Hmmmm

I have a Ludwig 18X20 Mahogany inner-ply bass drum, so I am looking for an 18X20 to match or an 18X22 to complement.

Thanks

Maybe you have an 18x20 floor tom converted to a bass drum?

Or a Compacto Outfit combo drum?

I believe the bass drum is a Compacto Jobbing Outfit 18 X 20 drum. The drum could be used vertically "cocktail" style, or on it's side as a traditional bass drum.

I have also read threads on other web forums that this drum could have been a special order in the aqua sparkle or whatever they called the greenish blue sparkle or glass back then. The same thread said that drum manufacturers "stole" wraps from each other back then to use on specials. (I doubt it)

My bass drum also has wood hoops on both ends of the drum, which may have been a special order or change by one of the previous owners. In the WFL catalog, the compacto bass drum had a wood hoop on one head and a flanged chrome hoop on the other head.

I will see what I can do about added the requested pictures of drum. My goal is a double-bass kit of these vintage drums.

Thanks to everyone for their continued input!

That looks like just what I am looking for! I wish I had a blue sparkle to trade. So, tell me more about the tom:

Does it have a mahogany inner ply?

Is the inside of the shell colored white or natural wood?

Are there any date stamps on the inside of the shell?

Are there any cracks in the shell or around the tom mount?

Are the bearing edges smooth without dings?

What would you be willing to sell the tom for?

Thanks for responding to my Want Ad.
