I've got two "Hollywood" kits, one with the disappearing spurs (1968) and one with the gull-wings (1966). The disappearing spurs (only 1 pair of them, not two) definitely hold the bass drum more stable (less rocking movement left to right) and less "walking away" from the drummer.

From this limited experience, I wonder why Ludwig changed from the disappearing spurs to gull wings. And I wonder if other drummers have had this same experience. I would think that TWO pairs of disappearing spurs - like Jaghog has now - would be a super stable platform.

The double disapperaing spur setup would have been quite an improvement to the traction, and then adding a spur on the front hoop you would have been locked in.

Sweet kit, and to get the matching Downbeat snare too!!!!

I have not tried yet, I’m still setting them up but it’s not a done deal

maybe why they stopped is because it takes some work to get them just right

I’ve tried to adjust them and they are a bit of a issue with too much on one side I’ll play with it and let all know

What I would recommend, from using a single pair of disappearing spurs on a kit, is:

1. Attach the kick drum pedal. Make sure you've got the base of the pedal centered between the bottom two T-claws.

2. Get a carpenter's level and place it left-to-right atop the two top-most tension lugs.

3. Adjust the disappearing spurs to keep "the bubble" centered in the level.

4. Tighten the wing-nuts and mark the "legs" of the spurs with a fine-tip black Sharpie, so you can easily repeat that adjustment at a gig (without using a level!)

I used the same method on my kit that has the gull-wing spurs, although the Sharpie marking method/location is a little different. Saves a lot of fiddling around (on your knees!) at a gig.

l already had snare

and he’s sending cymbal l arm ,for bd and felt I am happy and he threw in a ghost
